Meet Skylar!
Skylar Shelley (they/them) is a music psychotherapist (certification/registration in process), community-minded facilitator, and multi-instrumentalist dedicated to creating inclusive, accessible spaces through the power of music. With professional experience spanning clinical work, performance, event coordination, and audio production, Skylar brings a unique blend of artistry, technical skill, and social advocacy to their work.
Having completed their Master of Music Therapy (MMT) at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2025, Skylar’s research explores unmasking neurodivergence through singing and vocal psychotherapy. Their clinical internships have supported individuals & groups in housing and addiction services (House of Friendship, 2024) as well as children’s mental health programs (CMHA Waterloo-Wellington, 2024-2025), combining compassionate care with creative problem-solving and empowerment.
Skylar’s background includes an Honours Bachelor of Music in Community Music with a minor in Community Psychology & Social Change (Wilfrid Laurier University, 2019-2023), and a Music Industry Arts (MIA) Diploma (Fanshawe College, 2017-2019), where they earned multiple academic distinctions and awards. They have facilitated intergenerational and queer/trans-inclusive community choirs, delivered workshops bridging music production with emotional expression, and contributed to a range of grassroots initiatives promoting equity and mutual aid.
In their spare time, Skylar can be found spending time with their two cats and participating in numerous community theatre productions as a music/vocal director and/or performer. Whether on stage, in the studio, or in therapeutic settings, Skylar is committed to fostering connection, amplifying marginalized voices, engaging in lifelong learning, and using music as a tool for healing and social change.
